To get the most out of your Zigbee shades—including app control, voice commands, and smart home integration—you will need the Somfy TaHoma® switch. This smart hub acts as the brain of your motorized shades, translating your app and voice commands to the motors. If you only want basic push-button control, you can operate the shades using a paired Somfy remote without a hub.
Because they operate on the Zigbee 3.0 protocol and connect via the TaHoma switch, these shades offer incredible interoperability. Yes! If your home internet goes down, your Zigbee local network will remain active. You can still operate your shades using your physical Somfy remote controls or wall switches, and any pre-programmed automated scenes saved locally will continue to run.
Because Zigbee uses a mesh network, expanding your range is incredibly easy. Any plug-in Zigbee device acts as a repeater. If you have a shade that is too far from your TaHoma switch, simply plug a Somfy Zigbee Smart Plug into a wall outlet halfway between the hub and the shade. The smart plug will catch the signal and bounce it to the shade, extending your range effortlessly.
