How to Measure for Window Coverings

Accurate measurements are key to a perfect fit. Whether you're installing blinds, shades, or shutters, follow the steps below to measure for both inside mount window coverings.

Inside mount window coverings are installed within the window frame for a clean, built-in appearance.

How to Measure:

Width: Measure the inside width of the window frame at the top, middle, and bottom. Record the narrowest measurement.
Height: Measure from the top inside edge of the frame down to the sill in three places: left, center, and right. Use the longest measurement.

Note: Do not make any deductions. The manufacturer will make necessary adjustments to ensure a proper fit.

Measuring Tips:

Use a steel tape measure for accuracy.
Measure to the nearest 1/8 inch.
Double-check all measurements before ordering.
Clearly label each measurement as inside or outside mount.

Outside mount window coverings are mounted above or outside the window frame, covering more area and offering maximum light blockage.

How to Measure:

Width: Measure the desired coverage area, not the window itself. Add at least 4 to 6 inches (2 to 3 inches per side) beyond the window opening for better light control and privacy.
Height: Measure from the top of where the headrail will be installed down to the desired length (usually to the sill or floor). Add at least 3 inches above the window frame for bracket clearance.

Measuring Tips:

Use a steel tape measure for accuracy.
Measure to the nearest 1/8 inch.
Double-check all measurements before ordering.
Clearly label each measurement as inside or outside mount.

Limited Lifetime Product Warranty
This Limited Lifetime Product Warranty extends to the original purchaser of Modern Window Solutions window coverings products that have been properly installed, maintained according to our installation instructions, and not modified in any way. We will repair or replace, at our discretion, any defective product once it has been returned to Modern Window Solutions.
Please note that natural materials—particularly wood—may warp when exposed to environmental conditions. This is considered normal wear and tear and is not covered under this warranty. Repairs or replacements will be made using like or similar parts or products. While we will make every effort to match the original product, slight color variations may occur, and exact matches cannot be guaranteed—especially for older purchases or products installed near non-defective ones. If the product, part, or operating system has been discontinued, we will offer the most similar available alternative.

This warranty covers the following against defects in materials, mechanisms, workmanship, and failure to operate for as long as the original purchaser owns the product (unless otherwise stated below):

Shipping & Return Policy

Shipping:

At Modern Window Solutions, we take pride in delivering custom window coverings straight to your door across Canada. Once your order is placed, it will be custom-manufactured to your specifications. Please allow 2–3 weeks for production and delivery.

You will receive tracking information via email as soon as your order ships.

Returns & Exchanges:

Because all of our products are made-to-order based on the measurements and options you select, we do not accept returns or offer refunds for incorrect measurements or buyer’s remorse. Please double-check your measurements before placing your order, and feel free to contact us with any questions—we’re happy to help!

Returns are only accepted under the following condition:

The item arrives damaged or defective.

If your order is damaged upon arrival, please notify us within 7 days of delivery. Include your order number and clear photos of the damage in your email to support@modernwindowsolutions.ca. We will assess the issue and, if eligible, arrange for a replacement at no additional cost.

Order Cancellations:

Orders can only be cancelled within 24 hours of being placed. After that time, production begins and the order cannot be changed or cancelled.
